Alpine F1 management - David Sanchez

Biography

David Sanchez joined BWT Alpine F1 Team in May 2024 in the newly created role of Executive Technical Director.

David oversees the technical department based at Enstone and has overall responsibility of the Performance, Engineering and Aerodynamic areas of the team. He manages the three-pillared technical structure, with Ciaron Pilbeam (Technical Director – Performance), Joe Burnell (Technical Director – Engineering) and David Wheater (Technical Director – Aerodynamics) all reporting to him.

David reports directly to Team Principal Bruno Famin and will work closely with Eric Meignan, Technical Director Viry-Châtillon, who oversees the development of the power unit.

The appointment marked a return to Enstone for David who began his Formula 1 career at Renault F1 Team in 2005, the same year the team won both Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships. His first role was as a Junior Aerodynamicist, and now, nearly 20 years later, he leads Enstone’s technical team.

David then went on to lead the Aerodynamics department at Ferrari before becoming Head of Vehicle Concept. He remained at Maranello for over 10 years before moving to McLaren ahead of joining Alpine in the spring of 2024.
